Janneke Honings and Judith van der Wolde had trouble finding sustainable fashion. And so they started their own sustainable fashion brand J LABEL. With their company they also dedicate themselves to the empowerment of other women.
WE ARE is a short documentary in which Judith and Janneke show what they stand for by presenting their sustainable fashion label. They speak candidly about themselves as women, mothers and friends, and how they struggle with their self-image, the apparent superficiality of fashion and their search for justice through their work in the legal profession. As a small and new fashion label, they have a mission on a global scale. Transparency about the production process in the clothing industry is, according to the duo, a cause worth fighting for. The focus in this film is on being a woman and giving women in developing countries equal opportunities. WE ARE is a mosaic story with interviews with Judith, Janneke, Sunita and Millie who are connected by the label. A journey along the water of the Netherlands, the hustle and bustle of New Delhi and the freezing ground of Romania.
J LABEL received a fund from the Dutch Good Growth Fund (DGGF). This is part of the International Funding Programme of the Netherlands Enterprise Agency. Thanks to that help, J LABEL found the right factory in India, most of whose employees are women. They also found a group of women in the heart of Transylvania who can knit with their sheep’s wool.
The documentary is part of the WE ARE CONNECTED campaign to connect women in the clothing industry worldwide by making them visible to each other.
